Hip-hop in Cornouaille: 21 years of culture that belongs to everyone
From October 14 to November 7, the CultureS Hip-Hop festival celebrates its 21st edition in Cornouaille, from Crozon to Pont-l'Abbé via Quimper. Three weeks of dance, music and graffiti that this year place inclusion at the heart of the program, with a strong message: hip-hop is no longer just a neighborhood culture.
Hip Hop New School at the helm
Behind this event is the Quimper association Hip Hop New School (HHNS), led by its founder and director, Ali Ahamed. For years, HHNS has been bringing hip-hop culture to life across Brittany: rap, graffiti, breakdance, deejaying... The team doesn't count its hours to make these disciplines shine both in the city and in rural areas.
“Hip-hop can no longer be called neighborhood culture,” recalls Ali Ahamed, with a smile and the enthusiasm of the early days. “I've done every edition, and the pleasure is the same every year.”
The street as a playground from October 14
To kick off the festivities, meet on Wednesday, October 14, from 2 p.m., on Place Saint-Corentin in Quimper. The street becomes a free and popular expression space with emerging and established artists taking turns, notably with the presence of Cie The Treuze, which highlights inclusion and reminds us that hip-hop culture belongs to everyone.
This 21st edition makes a point of opening its doors wide to all audiences: a special place is given to inspiring journeys, such as that of Bboy Haiper, a breakdancer with a disability and finalist of the show “La France a un incroyable talent”, who will be present to exchange with the public and as a jury for certain shows.
A great journey through Cornouaille
Shows and activities travel through partner venues, and artistic creations come close to residents: the L'Améthyste performance hall in Crozon invites the public to dive into the history of the movement with the choreographic fresco of Cie Suprême Legacy.
In Pont-l'Abbé, at the Triskell, let yourself be surprised by the visual poetry of “Sous le poids des plumes”, a family show. A special moment dedicated to mental health and disability is also offered by the MJC de Kerfeunteun on October 16.
The Battle New School as a finale
As a grand finale, the legendary Battle New School International will heat things up. After intense qualifiers around the world, from Las Vegas to China, the best dance teams meet in Quimper for a memorable show. “We will also have the opportunity to welcome the Venezuelan team, 100% female. Inclusion also happens through that,” explains the festival organizer.
Between concerts and stage performances, this edition promises to be particularly beautiful and unifying for the entire region.
